First boat???
« on: March 08, 2008, 08:01:13 PM »

New to the board, and looking for some help/ideas.  I am looking for my first boat and am undecided what to get.  I am from Western PA (near the PGH airport) and have alot of restricted hp water in the area.  There are also the Three Rivers in the area as well (unrestricted).  Fish mostly bass and muskies, mostly casting, and fish alot of water that is electric only.  Love the storage space of a bass boat style and wondering if I should just get a used 94-05 fiberglass boat or a deep-v that some friends are suggesting.  Leaning toward the used bass boat with a 90-150 hp and just using the trolling motor on the restricted lakes.  Anyone have any guidance on the subject.  Also, would like to start fishing some bass tournaments.  Thanks on advance for any suggestions.

If you like bass fishing and if you are thinking of fishing some tornaments you might really want to consider the bass boat. The deep V isn't going to allow you to get into some skinny water some places. As far as for the electric motor only water, if they allow you to run your electric and still have the gas motor mounted on the boat a large enough e-motor will move you around quite well (those lake usally aren't that big). I have a 21 foot bass boat and in the area I live in if I want to go to a small horsepower lake like Yellow Creek I just run the trolling motor. I have an 80lb minn kota and it moves the boat right along and I don't give up the storage or ability to go to larger lakes.  Just my opinion, Stratos John
